Please don’t let me die tonight
To run and hide in flight
Not knowing who to trust
Or who is right.
The gun
The blood
The rope tearing at my wrist
Bound by love and hate
To a chair
With nowhere to run
I escape into the darkened
Wet street
It’s cool
The ground covered in sleet
My captor was my saviour
Until he put a gun to my head
Blood splatters
Across my face
Shot again.
And then again
Until everything before me shatters
The puzzle
The mess
The dress redder than red
Nowhere to turn
Nowhere to hide
I collapse against the grain
Of the dirty drain
Breathe
Breathe
Breathe I tell myself
Woken by the sudden thunder clap
Of the storm outside my door
I shiver and shake
Trying to stay awake
Please don’t let me die tonight
To run and hide in flight
Not knowing who to trust
Or who is right.
Please don’t bound my wrists
Or pull the trigger
Or hit me with your fist
Please don’t let me die tonight
Take me off your hit list
I’d rather drown in a lake
Either that,
or I shall just stay awake.
